If you found your way here, it’s probably because, like me, you are drawn to stories, books, TV, and movies based on Arthurian and other Mythopoeic themes. Beowulf. The High History of the Holy Grail. Le Morte d”Arthur. The Lord of the Rings.
GrailHallows.com—this blog—is a journey into that mythical universe where the Grail Hallows–along with monsters, dragons, wizards, chivalry, and King Arthur) exist.
(Want to know what I mean by “the Grail Hallows”? Go here.)
I’m a writer of speculative fiction with an Arthurian, Mythopoeic twist. I blog about speculative fiction over on my Home Page, DanaRail.com, and the Arthurian/mythopoeic stuff here. Sometimes the genres cross, and when they do, I blog in both places with different emphases.
Writers are introverts by nature, but me, I’m downright reclusive. While I’ve published both fiction and non-fiction under my real name, I opted for a pen name when I (some years ago now) undertook my Work-in-Progress. My Great Work, as the Alchemists would have it.
Why the pen name? Mostly because the chronic chore of trying to explain this mad hobby of mine to all but my closest family and friends was so taxing that I decided to shut up altogether and go incognito. So it is that “Dana Rail” is the name I call myself when I put on my Wizard’s Hat and my Cloak of Invisibility and sit down at the butcher block desk in my little writer’s studio.
There’s something about the purposeful obscurity of it all that gives me the freedom to imagine, without that hectoring “real world” voice in my head that sounds so much like a bemused relative, that one is living in an alternate future where Magic–and the Grail Hallows–have reappeared in our delusionally dis-enchanted 21st century.
Thank you for keeping me company on this journey. I hope it takes us both to marvelous and unexpected places.
Speaking of Company…
I have two companions in particular, fellow writers and sometime collaborators who will be appearing here from time to time: Ioan Raven and Sydney Wren. Without their birds-of-a-feather fellowship I would likely not have the courage to soldier on along this perilous road, this personal quest for the Holy Grail.
Speaking of delusional worlds…
As I mentioned, I have another blog, this one devoted to Speculative Fiction. It serves as my Home Page as well, and has pages on my W.I.P.s. Visit me there at DanaRail.com.
Follow me on Twitter. I usually follow back.
